The pandemic has proved to have been hard on the working and poor people. Our government has offered hardly any relief from illness, loss of income, loss of jobs, loss of family members, etc. Many of us have had to rely on our own communities to help each other get by, but even still, this has hardly been enough for many folks. I have made this strange little EP because I am in need of that community support. My ability to work has been hindered since the beginning of the pandemic. Without giving up too much personal information, I have health issues that put me at a special risk of covid (get yr ass vaccinated!), and I also care for a much younger sibling. This situation has both limited my finances but also given me an amazing opportunity to create music for all of you to enjoy. Unfortunately, as of a few days ago, my job will be shutting down temporarily because of covid exposure, and to make it even better, they will not be paying any of us.
So with all that being said, I’ve created this strange EP to help alleviate my temporary loss of income, and possibly help fundraise my future projects. I have mashed together a tape I made in 2019 and demos that are my poor attempt at American Primitive Guitar. The tape is actually something like the first attempt of the strange, experimental textures, and soundscapes that eventually became Muzak for Spelunking. If my memory serves right, it was recorded in a matter of a few hours with my trusty 4 track, Yamaha PSR 6 keyboard, and a reverb pedal. The solo guitar recordings are demos I recorded because of my interest in more folky textures, and the discovery of many of the old country blues artists along with John Fahey. Hastily put together to create an interesting and engaging listening experience. I’ve been thinking about it as a taste of the old and new of my evolving style.
I have tried my hardest to provide an interesting piece of art that you can enjoy in return for your charity. I try to make my music as easily accessed as possible. There is always a free way to listen to my music if you cannot pay. Unfortunately I cannot do that with this one. This operation is comically small and I wear every hat in terms of the music making process with everything you hear. So by purchasing this EP you will be helping me during this hard time. I also am in the process of writing new compositions for a new album. But do not worry, Multum In Parvo will still be coming out on October 8th. Even though my hardship will be temporary, purchasing this EP will also help with my future work. I'm very excited to record more material and collaborate with many other artists I enjoy and respect.
With all this being said, I truly hope you enjoy this music and I wanna give my most heartfelt thank you to all those who contribute. Making music for you has been my dream ever since I was a child, and it has now become a reality because of all of you. This has opened up so many doors and has been so fulfilling. In closing, I just wanna thank you all again and I truly love you and the opportunities you have afforded me.
Thank you,
Barrow Pit
